About the Role:

This role reports directly to the Country Manager and is based in Port Moresby. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the finance function, including management reporting, external audit support, budgeting, investments, accounts payable, and overseeing the Sales Advisor payroll. This position will also focus on improving financially related internal controls and processes, ensuring compliance with all BSP Life PNG’s policies, procedures, and relevant industry legislation.

Key Deliverables:

  • Prepare timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reports for operational management.
  • Produce statutory accounts for the company as required, in accordance with relevant accounting principles and standards.
  • Ensure alignment of accounting policies with current International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and business plans, and provide ongoing monitoring and analysis of performance against them to enable clear reporting of variances to the Board and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate all external reporting, including year-end statutory audits.
  • Assist in developing and implementing financial strategies aligned with the company’s objectives.
  • Perform cash flow analysis to ensure sufficient funds are available to meet operational   and   capital   investment   needs,   and   coordinate   with   Licensed Investment Manager (LIM) to invest funds in line with the Board’s directions, taking into account the requirements of the Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG). Implement effective internal controls and systems to manage financial risks and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the Sales Advisor commission’s payroll function and ensure accurate and timely payments.
  • Manage service level agreements (SLAs) with BSP Group and BSP Life Fiji, in consultation with the Country Manager.
  • Facilitate finance-related training for the Finance team to enhance performance, and support Sales Advisors in understanding financial processes.
  • Foster a culture of service excellence across the finance function. Any other tasks assigned by the Country Manager.

Essential Qualifications, Professional/Skills and Experience:

  • University degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Business Management. Full membership with CPA PNG or an equivalent professional body.
  • Strong knowledge of life insurance products, services, operational and administrative functions, and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and relevant accounting standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare budgets, financial forecasts, and business plans, and to provide analysis for management decision-making.
  • Sound business acumen with the ability to manage cash flow, investments, and risk.
  • Proven experience in people management and leadership, with a focus on developing high-performing teams.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in finance, preferably within the insurance or financial services sector.
